Today, my loud thoughts are directed at abnormal sex acts that have rocked the world. Just the other week, the world news was awash with a bizarre story about an Austrian father who held his daughter captive as a sex-slave for 24 years in a secret basement prison and fathered all seven.

But I would like to focus on Zambia where cases of defilement have been in the increase in of late. Unscrupulous traditional healers, who cheated their clients that they would be cured of HIV/AIDS once they have sex with a minor, largely started this practice.

But this is a pure lie because the traditional healers were only after money and the poor minors only contracted the incurable HIV virus. It is important that the activities of traditional healers are checked because most of the actors have been pursuing selfish and dangerous activities.

Today in Zambia, a day hardly goes without news reports about defilement or incest. In fact even sodomy and other forms of sex contrary to nature are also on the rise. Recently, a man in one of Zambia’s districts had sex with seven chickens and they all died.

Nowadays, it is difficult for many mothers in Zambia to entrust their girl child in the hands of strangers and even relatives because they can be defiled. Sometimes it is hard for parents to trust their children’s guardians at school and other public places because of fears of abuse. There are some cases where uncles have raped their own nieces and fathers raping their own infants. It has been realized that most sex offences in Zambia are done for ritual purposes on recommendation from traditional medicine men and women.

Activists have called for stiffer penalties like life imprisonment and castration, as a deterrent to would be offenders. The courts have been handing down long prison sentences but these defilers do not seem to be deterred.

My thoughts are divided whether to think that the Biblical prophecies about the Lord’s second coming have taken root or that it is human beings that have just lost morals. I say so because for instance, it is unimaginable for a 70-year old father to have sex with a 12-month-old baby.

Have people now developed more hunger for sex than ever before? Are there other factors contributing to this strange generation that we are in? What has really gone wrong with the world?

My view is that the world has adequate laws to protect innocent children from being sex victims. The problem is that there is a serious decay of morals and human values in the world now than ever before. But to say that the Jesus’ second coming is near would not be a arguable.
